FISHY -- TWO DIFFERENT MEANINGS -- SHARKS

FISHY BEAUTY

Fishy can be beautiful.  I was surprised and delighted to happen on to this amazing video of a male puffer fish’s courting efforts to attract a female.  I had no idea a fish could design such a spectacular creation in moving waters on the ocean floor --  as you will see with the overhead view at the conclusion of this 3:12 min. video.

FISHY

There are lots of fishy goings-on at our U. S. Governmental level of which most of us are aware.   Nobody has been walking on water across the Potomac as some might lead us to believe they are capable of doing – especially this administration’s leader.  How do we believe a documented habitual liar though he repeatedly espouses exclamations like “Believe me!”  “Trust me!” to quote a few?

Yet our President environmentally betrays the health and safety of United States citizens as evidenced by withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Accords.  Much of his justification speech for doing so has been countered with contradictory facts and figures in this USA Today article.   There are more ways to protect the American people than just guns, bombs, military interventions and trade bullying which seem to be his limitations.

Meanwhile our U.S. President appears to be leading our great nation to declining status domestically and internationally.

Periodically, this master of mendacity, divisive actions, and isolationism bemoans division in our country as he simultaneously describes himself as being a truthful unifier.     Delusions of grandeur must prevail in his mind, since his actions can be interpreted as being designed to degrade trust in our democratic system.  We might wonder what is his true agenda?  Reminds me of a popular song heard a few decades ago:  Everybody Wants To Rule The World”.

BIG FISH

Climate warming of oceans continues to see our Southern California coastal waters influencing sea creatures lives.  Sharks surprisingly have been lingering along our shores weeks longer than usual and much closer to the beach.

This Euro News video shows paddleboarders next to 15 great white sharks as authorities warn beachgoers.

Dana Point is an area friends and I enjoy visiting but usually we view the Pacific Ocean and it's inhabitants from the shore -- whales breaching, dolphins leaping.

"About 15 great white sharks showed up off Capistrano Beach in Dana Point, California, some coming very close to shore into less than 5 feet of water at times."  Shared by Mark, Orange County Outdoors

  1. For this post, I am a fish out of water!

  2. I love that first video and I posted it on my Facebook a week or two ago. Simply amazing.

I am so disgusted with how the president seems intent on destroying everything that has made America and he especially seems to enjoy undoing everything Obama did...like a rich man's revenge with no regard for who gets hurt in the process.

    1. That fish truly is remarkable. Still amazes me the current could be stable enough for the creation to last until completed as complex as it is. I don't recall where I originally happened on the video, or when, as was among several items I had added to my file at various times for future use, but I never visit Facebook and would have credited the source had I seen it on someone's blog.

  3. I live 11 minutes from Dana Point harbor. I have a birthday twin (an ex co-worker who's birthday is the exact same day as mine!) who ocean-swims every pre-dawn, 6 days a week, in Huntington Beach. I think he's an idiot; he claims the sharks prefer 'younger meat', and I replied that the sharks don't know you are older meat until it's too late. He persists with the ritual, though.

They say it's the warmer weather (HELLO, MR. PRESIDENT!!!) causing the unusual influx of sharks, but now the whale watching boats are trying to attract the sharks and dumping food into the ocean, so now the sharks are lingering for that. There have already been two awful shark attacks in the last couple of months because of this, but now we are in summer weather, and more people in the water. They've shut down the beaches a few days after strong sightings, but it's still scary...

    1. My friends, too, live only about 15 mins. from Dana Point -- a favored site for all of us. I had heard authorities asked that "chumming" (scattering bait to lure fish) by boaters cease. I agree with you that your friend is living dangerously, especially if he's alone or even only one of a few swimmers.

    2. That is a great fish video - who woulda thunk. And the shark stuff is eye opening -but most of all I commend your musical choice - you nailed it. We shall see where all of his lies lead us but I must say I fear the VP almost as much for altogether different reasons.

    3. I agree with you about the VP, then the next in line of succession is Speaker of the House who has some drastic budget ideas. Glad you appreciated the musical selection. I wonder how long it will take for the truth to emerge.

    4. What a beautiful beach with the white white sand and the baby blue water. Looks positively Caribbean!

    1. He sure puts in a lot of wooing effort.

  5. I would humbly suggest that your reading be expanded to cover both sides with equal vigor.
The president is doing exactly what we elected him to do. Some of his rhetoric is off putting to be sure, but that is not what we elected him for. We needed a business man, not a career politician, to straighten things out. We have one, and he has my support.

    1. I respect that you do not share my perspective, but your assumption is false that my reading has not covered both sides with equal vigor. I have been carefully considering all points of view, including issues from a historical standpoint, which has brought me to the conclusions I've reached. Since I am not affiliated with any political party, as I've stated here before, I simply share facts that inform my opinion. Perhaps if our President was willing to be more transparent -- including by disclosing his income tax data -- we would be in a much better position to confirm exactly what kind of business man he is. Perhaps if our President did not excuse individuals on his administrative staff from having to conform to ethical standards I might have more confidence in him. Perhaps if he and his administration fully supported our
democratic republic form of government I might be more able to trust him. I have provided in numerous previous posts here specifics on these matters and other issues that should raise questions in the minds of all of us.

  6. I have a feeling Trump will be a one term president.

  7. I've seen the puffer fish video before. It's quite incredible how he makes something so beautiful and so intricate.

Trump seems to want to isolate himself from the rest of the world. One day he might realise that's an impossible task. But not before he's wrecked the US economy and helped to wreck the global climate.

    1. I won't hold my breath that he'll ever alter this trajectory he's on -- moving our country toward a more authoritarian type of government much as has occurred in Turkey, that Russia has and history shows us is the pattern where dictators emerge as I've described in earlier posts.

  8. Thank you for posting my comment.

    We are a constitutional republic.

Though I disagree with your stand on the President, this is your blog and I respect your right to say what ever. It is healthy to question both sides of an issue, we have just come to different conclusions.

  9. I stayed with friends in Dana Point for a week a few years ago, nice place, spent some time on the beach in that area but didn't go right into the water as it was SO COLD!!!!!!!
I find it hard to believe that people actually support your new President. He gets very bad press up here in Canada.

    1. Glad you could enjoy Dana Point. I haven't taken a dip in the water there for many years. The rationale of those who continue to support our President is interesting given his actions, much less his words.

  10. As you know, I agree fully and strenuously with what you have said here. I am daily astonished and disgusted by the actions of the administration. They diminish us all. He is running one single agenda, and it is this: Revenge. Personal revenge for whatever slights he felt from the previous president at the press corps dinner during a lighthearted monologue. He now merely wants to undo that president's legacy. Such is the motivation for an individual of low character. As to his grandiose achievements--what are they, with a full majority in both houses of Congress? Hm.

    1. His actions and behaviors speak for themselves, I think, as you observe.

  11. I've seen what the puffer fish does which is totally incredible. Nature is incredible. I believe exactly as you do concerning this administration. His underlings keep trying to soften or dilute the craziness that comes out of his texts and fall over each other not knowing what the other members are saying.
