ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS.....

“All I want for Christmas …” is rain and snow!
(apologies to lyricist Don Gardner who wrote “All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth” in 1946.  Other songsters have since orchestrated their own versions -- you may even have your own!)

California’s state-wide drought issues have caused the need for serious water usage conservation efforts, hence my wish.  I’m delighted the weather effect known as El Nino is bringing snow to our mountains and rain in our valleys that will, hopefully, continue the next few months.  Even then we’ll need such winter weather each year for several years to come.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, or Happy Hanukkah, Merry Kwanza -- these are the holiday wishes with which family, friends, or others we encounter are most likely to greet us this time of year.    The season offers us all, including those not celebrating any of these holidays, a unifying opportunity.

Events this year have elicited emotional reactions from some across this country on how to insure future safety for all that have raised questions challenging our values -- personally and as a nation.    Hopefully, we'll all continue to practice tolerance throughout the coming year as we offer others respect, love one another and seek peace.

  1. Merry Christmas. It is a very different time of year for us with the kids in their own homes and a Christmas just the two of us. I think back on so many with big family gatherings but times change. I am going to do some thinking as to what I'd like next year's Christmas to be like. Some things I can't influence but others maybe I can :).

2016 certainly should be interesting-- at the least. Hopefully not as tragic as the last few years have been.

We just drove up through California from Needles across and then up I-5 and we got rained on a lot. Maybe it is the beginning of a new cycle for your state. Actually we got rained on a lot in Oregon too-- nothing new about that though...

    1. I remember the first Christmas my husband and I shared when just the two of us after our adult children with families of their own moved across country -- was a strange feeling after so many years together. Then, came the years when I was alone after his death. Sometimes I went East, sometimes children came here, and occasionally I was by myself. Lots of adjustments ..... lots of memories.

  2. We certainly need unifying events these days to remind us that we are all one.
Best to you in this holiday season and peace on earth.

    1. Unification, tolerance, compassion seem always to be in short supply -- some years more obviously in need.

  3. I've been pleased to follow the snow reports from California. Long-term prospects aren't very good; but, a temporary reprieve would be very welcome, I'm sure!

    1. Yes, some relief is promising. I'm appreciating the rain we're now periodically receiving where I live in the foothills at approximately 1200 ft elevation. Hopefully, this wet weather will continue the next few months.

  4. Mom used to say, if wishes were fishes, we'd have some fried. I don't expect human nature to change, but perhaps some us will dig deeper for the better nayure in ourselves.

  5. We just had a weekend filled with rain, anywhere from 1" to 7" here in Arkansas. Were it in my power I would be more than happy to share it with you, in fact you could have it all. We're 12" over average for the year. Now comes the flooding over the next week or two.

    1. Appreciate the thought. I'm hearing about floods elsewhere and wish all could be spared.

  7. I hope you had a nice Christmas and a happy new year. I talked to a friend in Hollywood yesterday and she told me it was raining very much there. I spent over two weeks sick in bed from Dec 22 and missed all the holidays, decorations and goodies. Since today is Christmas celebrated by Eastern Christian Orthodox, we have been listening to Christmas music until now in honor of my Armenian father’s culture. I am still going to bake some goodies, but I guess I’ll make them for Chinese New Year since it is still ahead… Have a great 2016!

  8. Glad you're finally getting to celebrate the holidays. Nice that we have so many to pick from and sounds like you have the right idea, but sorry you were ill those two weeks.
